MCH History
1987 – Montessori Children’s House
opens in
1990 – MCH moves to
1993 – MCH moves to its current location on 1 ¾ acres, occupying the space of a turn-of-the-century farmstead. The school opens with one Early Childhood Classroom of 3-6 year olds, offering before and after school care to meet the needs of working families.
1994 – MCH opens a second classroom, this time for Infants & Toddlers.
1995 – MCH opens a third classroom, for 3-6 year olds.
1998 - MCH breaks ground on a second building, designed to house two new Early Childhood Classrooms, offices, and a large Multi-Purpose Room (destined to become the Elementary Classroom in future years).
1999 – MCH starts the school year with four Early Childhood Classrooms and one Toddler Classroom.
2001 – The Toddler Program closes and its space is converted into a dedicated childcare facility.
2003 – MCH inaugurates its Lower Elementary Program, with a First-Third Grade class of three students. Simultaneously, the current Infant/Toddler Program came into existence. One group of Toddlers inhabits a classroom on the Main Campus. MCH opens La Casa, a small satellite facility in the lower level of Linda Baker’s nearby home, to house another group of Infants & Toddlers.
2006 – MCH opens a fifth Early Childhood classroom, redesigning the Elementary Classroom and moving the offices in the process.
Dec 2007 - MCH purchases the property next to the main campus adding 3.5 acres to the existing 1.5 acre campus.
Jan 2008 - MCH opens a third toddler classroom in the new property.
Future long-term plans for MCH include opening an Upper
Elementary class for fourth-sixth grade, building a new Toddler facility, and
moving the Offices to a new, central location on the Main Campus.
