El Salon Morado

Spring has sprung in the Elementary class! We always enjoy a springtime kick start to our life sciences studies. As the Earth and animals awake, we are looking into life cycles, Parts of the Plant and Phyla of the Animal Kingdom. The children's work involves hands-on experiences like our in-class Compost Experiment, seed starting to accompany the closer examination of monocots and dicots, and incubating/hatching baby chicks for the farm. We also start to get outside as often as possible, exploring the farm, the forest and the field.

This outdoor exploration corresponds to our unfolding study of the North American continent. We are researching biomes (climates, habitats and life) and really enjoying getting to know our forest biome. On a recent Five Kingdoms hike, they were excited to discover the many varieties of fungi in the forest.

Throughout the year, as individual interests arise, the students pursue independent research projects. Our springtime Passion Projects are a culminating research project. We are having a Introductory meeting for parents new to Passion Projects on April 9 from 4-4:30 pm. Elementary students can join the aftercare group during the meeting. See you then!
