In November, the kids learned about food and nutrition. The kids learned about the five basic food groups: meat and beans, fruits, vegetables, grains and dairy and discovered the differences between these types of foods. We discussed why we need to eat food from each group. We learned that grains give us energy, proteins help our muscles and blood, fruits and vegetables give us needed vitamins and minerals and dairy gives us calcium to help our bones. The kids got to sort pictures of different foods into these food groups. We also had fun singing songs related to food.
In December, we are holding our annual winter community service project by running a basic needs drive for HOPELINK, an organization that helps out those in need by providing services and goods needed. Our class is collecting personal hygiene items like soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner and shaving cream. I hope that everyone will be able to help out.
In December, we will be focusing on the different holidays that occur in the month of December. We will be learning about Chanukah, Christmas and Kwanzaa and why these holidays are celebrated. The kids will discover the symbols that are connected to each holiday and the meaning behind those symbols. They will also get to complete crafts that celebrate each holiday and sing songs related to the holidays.
This month is a short month due to Winter Break and I hope that everyone has a wonderful Winter Break!
