Student Job Applications for The MCH Voice


​Hello students! Thank you for applying to be on the MCH Newspaper staff.

What do you need to do? 

1. Read each job description below. You can click on the job description in the box below, or you can print out the job description list (the information is the same)
2. Think about the job or job you might like to apply for
3. Fill out the Application and Press "Submit"
4. Your teachers will review your applications and get back to you once we have received all of the applications

Job Descriptions (click on each job to learn more): 

Editors in Chief
  • Job Description: These are the folks who manage and organize each edition of the newspaper. They make sure that everything is turned in on time, edit all of the content submitted by the contributing roles, choose where to place all of the content, and, most importantly, that the paper is published on time. They also, from time to time, write an editorial, a special piece of opinion writing that is meant to represent the whole school.  
  • Job Responsibility level – High (2-3 hrs/week) 
  • Skills needed: Strong writing and proofing skills, comfortable reading through and providing editing feedback on a regular basis. 
     
Department Editors
  • Job Description – These editors work in a specific department, or area. Some examples might be the Creative Arts, Investigative Reporting, Reviews (music, movies, tv, games, etc). They work closely with contributors in that department to help them develop their ideas into finished content for the paper. Department editors are responsible for all the articles and submissions that belong in their section. Department editors can also write for the Newspaper.  
  • Job Responsibility level – High (2-3 hrs/week) 
  • Skills needed: Strong writing and proofing skills, comfortable reading through and providing editing feedback on a regular basis. 
Art Directors
  • Job Description- These roles focus on the visual aspect of the newspaper and the overall design. The art director(s) works closely with the Editor in Chief to make sure that the overall design is in place before the newspaper is published. The Art Director may also write or submit for the newspaper.  
  • Job Responsibility level – High (2-3 hrs/week) 
  • Skills needed: Strong writing and proofing skills, comfortable reading through and providing editing feedback on a regular basis. This job is great for people who have an eye for detail, enjoy visual organization, and love making things look beautiful.  
Reporters
  • Job Description- Reporters are the backbone of the newspaper! These folks are the ones coming up with unique ideas, research them and write about them. There are many different kinds of reporters: sports, investigative, creative arts, and more! The kind of reporter you become depends on what topics are most interesting to you. Reporters might interview other people, write articles, or create something for the newspaper.  
  • Large - Medium – Small Responsibility Job: There is flexibility in this job, and you can take on as much or as little as you like.  
  • Skills Needed – This job is for those who like to write, who have ideas they want to explore and then share with others. You can be a reporter and an art creator!   
 
creators
  • Job Description – This is a job for anyone who loves to create! Any and all forms of art are welcome, from illustrations to videos to audio, anything you want to create can be submitted.   
  • Large - Medium – Small Responsibility Job: Just like with reporters, there is flexibility in this job, and you can take on as much or as little as you like.   
  • Skills Needed - Skills will vary depending on the type of art. No experience needed, either, explore and share and have fun! You can be a reporter and an art creator!

    Please read directions carefully and fill in the form below. When you are finished, press Submit, and your teachers will be able to review your application.
    Responsible for managing and overseeing the overall content produced for the newspaper. This includes reviewing all content produced, such as articles and photographs, and developing strategies and style guidelines. This person/people will organize all incoming newspaper submissions and get them where they need to be. They work closely with all other departments to ensure that everything is on track. The Editor in Chief also often writes for the Newspaper.
