Sun Protection at MCH
Outdoor play is an important part of summer camp at MCH, and we want families to know how we support sun safety while children are in our care. As noted in the summer paperwork, please apply sunscreen before arriving at school on sunny days. For children staying in Extended Day, staff will reapply sunscreen before afternoon outdoor time when written permission has been provided on the sunscreen authorization form. Please send only non-aerosol sunscreen (lotion, cream, or stick). Aerosol sunscreen cannot be used during child care hours under Washington licensing requirements.
Following King County guidance, we check the UV Index daily, even on cloudy days, and apply sunscreen when the UV Index is 3 or higher (considered the 'moderate' range).
We also consider:
Weather conditions
Length of outdoor time
Shade availability
Each child's sunscreen authorization
Licensing requires written parent or guardian permission before sunscreen can be applied.
Sunscreen must:
Be in its original container
Be labeled with the child's first and last name
Be used according to the manufacturer's instructions
Not be expired
If your child's sunscreen information changes, please let us know so we can update their authorization form.
We also support sun safety by encouraging hydration, using shade whenever possible, planning outdoor time thoughtfully, and encouraging families to send hats or other sun-protective clothing. Thank you for helping us keep children safe and comfortable while they enjoy outdoor play!
Backpacks
Your camper will use their backpack to bring the following items daily:Inside Shoes (hard sole slippers)
Labeled Lunch Box (with an ice pack)
Two sets of extra summer clothes labeled with their name and packed in a reusable bag
Please provide your own backpack if you currently do not have an MCH backpack to bring items to and from camp daily.
Snack
MCH provides nutritious snacks during morning, afternoon, and extended day times. The snack menu is posted on our website. Throughout the week, we offer a wide variety of snack choices that meet virtually every dietary need. However, if your child has dietary or nutritional concerns that make it necessary for you to provide snack, please ensure that the snack is clearly labeled in a separate container in the child’s lunch. Please click here to view the snack menu or refer to it above.
Children who Nap
If you have indicated through the enrollment form that your child is a napper, they will have a daily nap period from 1:00–2:30 PM. If you have an MCH nap blanket, please send it with your child. For children new to MCH, a nap blanket will be provided for the weeks they are enrolled.
Nap blankets will be sent home on Fridays to be laundered and must be returned on Mondays. If you are borrowing an MCH nap blanket and are not enrolled in camp the following week, MCH will wash the blanket.
