Over the course of three weeks, Redmond’s Montessori Children’s House (MCH), an American Montessori Society accredited school, collected basic needs supplies for Hopelink, a non-profit that serves families on the Eastside.

There’s a natural part of parenting where we want to do everything for our kids; and when I say everything I mean everything. We figure they’re going to have to make their own bed when they go away to college so we might as well do it for them now. We load and unload the dishwasher because the child is right in the middle of doing something fun, and really – we don’t want any more broken glasses.

Montessori Children’s House (MCH) recently earned Pillar 3 status as determined by the U.S. Department of Education, and the Redmond school also took home the coveted 425 Best Preschool award.

The prospective parent looked at Jennifer Wheelhouse of Montessori Children’s House in Redmond with concern. “Is that safe?” she asked, and gestured to the new elementary playground. It was a beautiful day: sunny just a hint of a breeze. “I turned to look at the reality of my vision and smiled,” Wheelhouse recalled. Here are her thoughts about parenting today, and learning to let go (at least a little bit).
