December was an exciting month in the Rosa class! Now that so many transitions and self-care skills have been mastered by our toddlers, they've focused more of their energy on individual classroom work. This lets us observe even more, and create work that captures their individual interests and develops their individual skills. One of the best examples of this is the group train work that we brought into our class in December. Introducing a group work like this allows the children to work on developing social and language skills, such as negotiating shared space and asking for materials, in addition to the cognitive skills they're building by planning out a train track and fitting pieces together.
We did have to say goodbye to two more of our students in December, who both moved up to EC, and will be very much missed by their classmates and teachers. In January, we plan to continue with winter activities, stories, and songs, as well as introducing more complex math works into our classroom. Many of our students have recently been interested in counting, as well as identifying "two" wherever they see it. We'll be singing counting songs during Circle Time, capturing that interest in "two" by matching pairs of gloves, and sorting by small, medium, and large. We'll also be welcoming two new students into Rosa in January! Happy New Year!
