Hi Folks,
It was great seeing everyone return from Thanksgiving break and working very hard all week on multiple assignments and lessons. We didn't miss a step coming back and had a lot of fun learning and getting a chance to do a lot of new things this week. We had a visit from someone from the Pacific Northwest Ballet to talk about the Nutcracker. She showed us some slides of the show, talked about the story, and showed us some costumes they used in the performance. A lot of the students are super excited for the field trip this Friday to the Nutcracker. We also had an Art Lesson with Ms. Michelle where we are building mosaics. About half of the class had the lesson last Wednesday and the other half will have it this Wednesday. They look fantastic. In our Science lessons, we have started our Physics Lessons on Buoyancy and discussed and experimented with things that float and sink and their properties. In Geography, we introduced the globes and had a lesson on whether there is more land or water on the planet. This will lead in to lessons about globes and maps and what makes them different and how to use them. We continued our weekly individual math lessons and started lessons on verbs and homographs. We will be finishing up our Word Study lessons and we will be getting into more sentence mechanics very soon. During Talkabout this week, we are discussing what makes ourselves special. We have been discussing about things that make us happy, sad, angry, excited, and other feelings. We have also been discussing things we enjoy, love, like, hate, and students are enjoying getting to know more about each other and communicating their feelings to the group. Thanks to everyone who picked up an Adopt A Family tag to donate a gift to the families we have adopted. The upper elementary and 3rd graders have been helping parents be able to choose a gift to donate. There are still tags available, if you are still interesting in helping. Remember, gifts are due Friday, December 12. Lastly, we are planning another Sharing Day on Friday, December 19th. This day will also be a Pajama day. Students can dress in clean pajamas if they would like to. Please have them still wear shoes to wear outside. They can bring in a stuffed animal or something that reminds them of bedtime for sharing. Please make sure the item can fit in their MCH bag with their lunch. If you have any questions, please ask. Have a good day, Ben & Carol
