Happy Friday Folks!

            Spring is just around the corner, and we are all feeling ready to shed our layers (excluding the raincoats!) and embrace the sun. As our Tree of Life lessons ramp up, students are looking forward to beginning our gardening curriculum with Ms. Katherine, our beloved gardening specialist. This week, we took a closer look at Prokaryotes and gained a deep respect for the hard work that bacteria has been doing for millions of years.

                Karolina (Iza grade 2) came to whip up some fresh, healthy smoothies with us today and it was a blast! Thanks everyone so much for sending fruit. We made several variations and practiced plenty of grace and courtesy as we shared with Turquesa, the office and the staff lounge. Ask your child to make a fresh fruit smoothie with you this weekend-they've got lots of recipes! 

                Our community theatre event on Saturday was a huge success and students were so proud to share their hard work and efforts. Thanks again to the Parent Association for helping us partner with Book It Repertory and thank you to Gillian Jorgenson, our resident teacher, for all her great work!

                ​ We eagerly returned to our regular routine of PE and Nature Club, and we even got to ditch our jackets today. Students looked for signs of spring during Nature Club today and found flowers blooming and bees buzzing!  2-5 graders played some team-building games on the playground for PE. It was refreshing to be outside in the sun and hear the sounds of children connecting with one another and their environment. 

                In Geography, we are wrapping up our study of Africa. Third grade students completed research and reports on a chosen country in Africa, and first and second grade students will complete short projects on an animal that lives in Africa. Next week, we have lessons on Parts of the Flag and flags and meanings of Africa and the world. Students will also learn about their own country's flag and its significance.

                Math Day is next week. On Thursday, March 13, from 4-6, parents will gain insight to the Montessori math curriculum and students will give presentations on a chosen math work. See you there!  

                We would like to welcome a new student to the Elementary! Lily Sadler, a former MCH student, is returning to finish her First Grade year with us in Morado. She spent a full day with us last week, and she and her family are excited to join our community!

                We do want to remind parents that students always need rain boots and a spare set of clothes here at school. Spring means rain, and this week we've had lots of it! Please be sure to replace your child's clothing if he or she does wear it home.  

                Please remember we have no school next Friday. It is a teacher in-service day so there will also be no childcare. ​Please have a wonderful weekend and let's hope for a little peak of sunshine!
