Thanks to everyone who was able to attend our Parent Education night.  It was great being able to show you all different hands-on lessons your children get to experience every day.

We had some big events happen this week.  Our new first grader Samuel’s mom, Julia, came in this week for a Guy Fawkes holiday circle and many students enjoyed the story and had many questions for Julia.  On Wednesday, we had Art with our art specialist, Ms. Michelle, who taught us about famous paintings by Edward Hopper.  The students got to do their own drawings in his style and learned how to make perspective lines using a ruler.  Also on Wednesday, the upper elementary class moved to the classroom next door, giving much needed room for the lower elementary.  It was great seeing students help move and setup the entire classroom in one day.  We will be using the empty middle space, now called Indigo, for a quiet study room, specialists, lunch, and meetings.  It was great having more space for our growing classroom and for students to stay focused more on their works.

Next week, remember that Tuesday we will be closed in observation of Veteran’s day and we will be finishing our geology unit and starting to learn more about different land and water forms.  We will also continue our usual math and language lessons.  3rd graders will also begin their Literature Circle with the upper elementary.  They were super excited to get to vote on their book choices last Friday and will receive their book on Monday.

We are looking for more volunteers to help drive the K-6 graders, everybody!, to the Seattle Children’s Theater to see Dick Whittington on Tuesday, November 18th.  If you are interested in going please let me know as soon as possible.

Have a good weekend,

Ben & Carol
