Last month, we began our daily social-skills lessons called Choices. We spent three weeks on communication and looked at verbal and non-verbal types of communication. Students really know what it means now when I say, "Sit up straight and look ready!" We are focusing on decision-making next.
In PE, students have begun twice-monthly hikes up the hill to work on endurance, stamina and learning more about muscle tone. We have also been playing group games to learn basic skills like sportsmanship, taking turns, and communication. We've been doing lots of cooking with parent volunteer Ms. Karolina (Izabela, grade 3) and will be making pumpkin soup and banana ice cream. Following our Intro to Chemistry coming up the next two weeks, we will have Mr. Jason (Aubrey, grade 1) here on the 25th to explore cooking and chemistry using liquid nitrogen. Students are so excited for this project! Our kitten, Squeakers, continues to thrive in our care. He reached the half pound mark this week and we're thrilled to be a part of his growth. He is learning how to purr. Students had graphing lessons to chart his growth.
