Puzzles of all shapes and sizes were explored and put together for the entire month of April. A shape puzzle was a favorite among many toddlers as they were able to identify shapes that we found and talked about in our Architecture Shape book. Other popular puzzles were a small knobbed vehicles one and a more complex fire truck one. We talked about Earth day and learned some new songs about the earth and peace. Both of these include hand signs that that toddlers have been very interested in replicating themselves during circle time. At times, our friends in Rosa can even be seen singing these songs during morning work time to themselves and occasionally at lunch. “The Earth goes round the Sun” is often requested multiple times during circle and “Peace like a River” is a song that often calms the group as a whole. We also have read the book I Love You, Sun I Love You, Moon by Karen Pandell and illustrated by Tomie dePaola. Towards the end of the month we began to work on a multi-step project that has incorporated our sense of touch and several fine motor skills. The toddlers have been especially excited to see what their friends are working on and talking about the colors they are working with. They are excited to share these gifts with their loved ones! In May we will talk about flowers and plants we see in the classroom and outside around campus. We will also work on gross motor activities that get our friends moving safely around the classroom in various ways.
