Welcome to a new school year in Amarillo! We had a busy September in which we got acquainted with one another and the children settled into the routine of school. At circle times we focused on lessons of grace and courtesy, including walking around a mat, taking turns to speak at circle and using listening ears for one another, and using polite words of asking and thanks when speaking to one another. These small acts of kindness are leading into our discussions on peace and how we can create peace in the world by beginning with acts of peace with one another. Later in October, we will learn about community helpers.
We welcomed a new pet into our classroom: a dwarf hamster who the children christened Daisy Carrots. The children are enjoying observing her activities and watching her when we put her into her exercise ball to move about the room. The children really love to look at the photos of their families. If you have not yet had a chance to send in a framed photo of your own family, we would be happy to receive it and have it join our collection. Ms. Sunanda and I are delighted to observe the ownership of the class that the children are taking, building their community in caring for their environment and one another.
