The month of October certainly flew by! At circle times we discussed peace as an extension of grace & courtesy lessons. Our peace and grace & courtesy lessons have helped to form a foundation of community that we see forming in the classroom. Later in the month we began a look at community helpers and what they do. A group of firefighters visited the school, coincidentally the day after a school fire drill, so the discussion of fire drills, their purpose, and what to do in one, was a predominant source of conversation for the children.
We enjoyed a visit from Mad Science and learned about insects, and late in the month we had a wonderful session of carving our own individual pumpkins. Our weekly art lessons with Ms. Michelle are very popular. The children learned about Henri Matisse, warm and cool colors, and made some beautiful autumn wreaths. In November we will begin a study of the solar system, and take a look at the holidays that fall in the month as well: Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving.
