We began the month of May in Amarillo with child-led visits, which were a delight to observe as the students shared some of their favorite works with their parents. Outside the classroom on our porch, we all watched with great excitement as a Junco nest hatched and eventually fledged four baby birds. We had an impromptu lesson in the occasional sadness of nature, as well, when a second batch of eggs in the same nest became breakfast for a squirrel. We enjoyed visits from residents of Aegis, and an in-house field trip with the Reptile Man was a great hit! The kindergarteners participated in the elementary school's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream as forest animals. Next month we will be observing the growth of ladybug and butterfly larvae and hope to be able to release our adult insects before the end of school. We'll take a closer look at the life cycles of both insects as we enjoy these last three weeks of school before summer.

During the month of April, the Amarillo class went on a journey through Italy with Ms. Federica. We learned about volcanoes, made pizzas, and had great fun with the flags of Italy and Sardinia. The children really enjoyed the puzzles of Italy that Ms. Federica brought in, and learning some words in Italian, too. The children prepared songs and made art for the Montessori celebration on the 21st. They did a wonderful job of singing their songs with Ms. Amy and Mr. Shawn! Warmer weather is finally upon us and we are looking forward to learning more about animal habitats as we also explore our outside environments on the campus. We are also looking forward to learning more about insects when we hatch ladybug and butterfly larvae later in the month! During the month of March in Amarillo, we looked at different types of vehicles: boats, trains, cars, and planes. We welcomed the arrival of Spring and of warmer recesses, too. We learned about St. Patrick's Day from Niamh and her family. We enjoyed our lessons in music, Spanish, and gardening, and learned about different artists in our art lessons. Next month, on April 21st, a celebration of all we have learned with our specialist teachers will take place at Rosa Parks school. The children have been preparing songs to sing, and some of their artwork will be on display. After our return from Spring Break in April, we will enjoy Ms. Federica's introduction to Italy. |
